Ally Szeles

Clarinet, 2019

Ally Szeles is a clarinetist based in Michigan. As an enthusiastic performer, she has performed for a wide range of audiences in several states and in different countries including Spain and China. Frequently, she can be found performing as a solo artist, in chamber ensembles, and in improvisation groups. As a supporter of new music, she has recently premiered pieces by Yuchen Bian and Meghan Anderson. Her energetic performances have earned her the Lillian Pringle Baldauf Prize in Musicality and the Margaret Upton Prize. She is currently working towards a Doctorate in Clarinet Performance at Michigan State University and holds degrees in Music from Bowling Green State University and Kalamazoo College. Her primary teachers have been Dr. Mingzhe Wang,  Kevin Schempf, and Tony Garcia Fernández.
