Ashlin Hunter is a composer from Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her recently completed projects include a chamber opera about the sun and a sunflower, a collage-inspired concert band piece, a choral piece grown out of self-written poetry, and a distorted lullaby for flute and oboe. Ashlin’s compositions have received first place awards in the Music Teachers National Association and Oklahoma City University Project21 Prize for Music Composition competitions, and her reed quintet and if ever was selected for performance at the University of Nebraska-Kearney New Music Festival in March 2017. She has written pieces for the University of Kentucky Guitar Trio, Boston’s Chimera Concert Series, and the Bristol Eastern High School Flute Choir (Bristol, Connecticut). Ashlin is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from Bowling Green State University where she has studied with Christopher Dietz, Mikel Kuehn, and Marilyn Shrude. Ashlin values composing music that is whimsical, poetic, and grown from personal relationships. In addition to pursuing music, Ashlin enjoys gardening and crossword puzzles.
