Cathrine Gu began playing the clarinet in 4th grade elementary school beginning band. However, prior to her knowledge of the wooden instrument, she dwindled on recorder in 3rd grade general music class. Growing up, Cathrine performed in various honor bands and ensembles such as the Homestead Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Outside of school ensembles included the El Camino Youth Symphony. Cathrine is currently pursuing a dual degree in clarinet performance and music education, studying clarinet with both Chad Burrow and Daniel Gilbert. She enjoys playing in chamber groups and has performed several pieces such as the Brahms Clarinet Sonata in F Minor and the infamous Villa Lobos Trio. Though her primary focus is on music education, then clarinet performance, she is sure to leave time on her schedule for a little recorder fun. As a music educator, she hopes to connect the community through music.
