Daixuan Ai

Composer, 2019

Daixuan Ai is a composer and pianist currently pursuing composition major at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Daixuan is originally from China and has been studying abroad in the United States since 2014. Due to her unique background, she has been greatly influenced by both Chinese and American cultures and music.  

Daixuan has had her compositions for solo instruments and various chamber ensembles premiered on many New Music Series concerts at BW. In the summer of 2018, Daixuan was selected to participate in the BW Summer Scholar program where her project was to write an orchestra piece based on her study of orchestration and research on traditional Chinese Culture—Xiangxi Tujia and Miao.  The final product of this project, My Father’s Tale, was premiered by BW Symphonic orchestra, conducted by Dr. Soo Han. During the summer of 2019, Daixuan attended the Fresh Inc New Music Festival in Wisconsin with a full scholarship offer. Through the festival, she was also commissioned by Kenosha Community Foundation to write a piece for New Hub Music which will be premiered this October.  In July 2019 Daixuan also attended the European American Musical Alliance music institute at La Schola Cantorum in Paris, France. She studied with composers including Phillip Lasser and David Conte.

As a pianist, Daixuan has played masterclasses with artists including Spencer Myer, Joela Jones, and Anderson & Roe Duo.  She frequently performs as soloist, chamber musician, as well as symphonic orchestra keyboardist.
