Rachel Epperly is an accomplished young composer and pianist. She was recently selected to participate in the inaugural Mata Jr. Festival held in New York City, at which her piece “La Extranjera” was performed by the Face the Music ensemble. In 2014, Rachel’s commissioned orchestral work was performed by the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, making her the youngest commissioned composer in the orchestra’s 84-year history. During her high school years, as a student of Alexander L. Miller, Rachel won several state, regional, and national composition competitions sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association and the National Federation of Music. She currently studies with Bright Sheng at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Rachel is also a talented pianist, placing in and winning multiple regional and state competitions in Michigan. She currently studies piano with Amy Cheng at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.
