Sergio Delgado

Composer, 2019

A passionate performer, composer and educator, Sergio Delgado graduated in clarinet performance from the Conservatory of Castella, and the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica under the tutelage of Dr. Yamileth Pérez. In the field of musical composition, he had as mentors Benjamín Gutiérrez and Alejandro Cardona. He has received master classes with renowned international clarinetists such as Philippe Cuper, Ronald van Spaendonk, Antonio Saiote, James Campbell, among others. He has taught at the University of Costa Rica (2017) and was the principal clarinetist of its Symphony Orchestra (2014-2016). An active member of the Heredia Symphony Orchestra since 2011, Delgado has taken part in several premieres and recordings of contemporary Latin America works. He has taught masterclasses at the University of Panama and has been a guest professor at the International Clarinet Festival in Costa Rica since 2017. He currently teaches as Clarinet, Piano and Music Theory at several municipal Music Schools in Costa Rica. His works have been premiered, performed and recorded by professional artists and ensembles inside and outside of Costa Rica, among which the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, PEN Trio (USA), Alfredo de Saint Malo Festival Orchestra (Panama) Trío Acuarimántima (Colombia), Banda de Conciertos de Cartago (CR), Truman State University Wind Orchestra (USA), Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra, Heliathus Trio (CR-USA), among others. In the summer of 2019, Delgado attended the Fresh Inc Festival in Kenosha WI, to focus on gaining knowledge and experience in contemporary chamber music, composition and music business. His next commission as a composer is a concert work for the Acuarimántima Trio and the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra in Colombia.
