Tyla Axelrod

Cello, 2019

Cellist Tyla Axelrod, originally from East Setauket, New York, is a devoted chamber musician and performer of contemporary music. She studies with Dr. Melissa Kraut and is currently pursuing her Master’s of Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she also received her Bachelor’s of Music. As a founding member of the Heilerin String Quartet, Axelrod has participated in CIM’s Intensive String Quartet Seminar, as well as the La Ruta De Mozart festival in Havana, Cuba, through the Cuban American Youth Orchestra’s US Cuba Artist Exchange. Axelrod previously attended the Manhattan School of Music Precollege, where she studied with Wolfram Koessel of the American String Quartet. Axelrod has attended festivals such as Madeline Island Chamber Music (Fellowship Program), Encore Chamber Music (String Quartet Intensive), the American Institute of Music Studies in Graz, Austria, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. She has also worked with artists such as Si Yan Darren Li, Keith Robinson, Peter Salaff, Todd Phillips, Clive Greensmith, David Ying, Paul Katz, Sharon Robinson, Johnny Gandelsman, and the Borromeo, Jupiter, and Cavani String Quartets.
