Born and raised in Missoula, MT, Alli High is a junior at the University of Montana (UM) pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education as well as a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. At UM, she studies flute privately with Dr. Jennifer Cooper. Music has been a part of her life since the age of six when she began studying Suzuki Violin privately. She began playing flute in her middle school band at the age of 12 and studied privately with local flautist, Kirsten McGlynn, throughout her high school career. During her time at Hellgate High School, Alli participated in the All-State Orchestra, the Missoula Youth Symphony, and performed in Carnegie Hall with the Hellgate Wind Ensemble. As a senior, she was awarded the Mozart Award and the Outstanding Senior in Fine Arts. During the first year of her college career, she competed as a finalist in the Montana Associations of Symphony Orchestras (MASO) Competition as well as the UM Concerto/Aria Competition. Throughout her two years at UM, she has proudly served as principal flautist in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra. Alli is pursuing her love of chamber ensembles through Known Alley Duo, a flute and oboe duo, with her friend Noah Durnell. Outside of music, Alli loves to spend time with loved ones, create arts and crafts, and spend time outdoors. Alli’s goal is to research, perform, commission, and educate about minority composers to help tear down the boundaries of standard music education in rural communities.
