Since his arrival in the United States in 2000, Anik (b. 1993) has been steadily exploring a diverse range of creative pursuits. A composer, singer-songwriter, and artist based in Austin, Texas, his music touches on a wide variety of genres and styles, including
contemporary classical, new music, jazz, popular, electronic, and world music and draws upon a plethora of influences, from Indian Classical to R&B.
In addition to composition, performance, and production, Anik is always looking for new opportunities to collaborate across artistic disciplines with filmmakers, choreographers, artists, animators, and fellow musicians.
Anik studied composition privately with Karim al-Zand of Rice University and has studied with Yevgeniy Sharlat, Donald Grantham, Ian Dicke, Dan Welcher, and Russell Pinkston at the University of Texas at Austin. He studied jazz piano with Jeff Helmer and plays for a jazz combo at UT Austin. He’s also been a member of composer-producer Gary Powell’s Ensemble 109. Oh, and he also draws comics for the school paper there.
Anik prefers to open as many doors as possible as he forays into the world of entertainment. With avid interest in literature, politics, history, and technology and a somewhat unhealthy obsession with science fiction, he seeks to undertake new projects in
diverse media that serve not only to entertain but also to provoke thought and inquiry – and, most of all, to inspire those who will build the future.
