Anna Montgomery is a lyric soprano establishing her career on the operatic and concert stage. Her efforts to refine and explore her vocal and dramatic talents have recently brought her to elite summer training programs, recently including Lauren Flanigan’s Audition Boot Camp and the Martina Arroyo Prelude to Performance program in New York City where she covered the role of Nannetta (Falstaff). In previous summers she also attended Brevard Music Festival (2017), Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Institute (2016), and Opera Steamboat (Formerly the Emerald City Artist Institute) in her home state of Colorado (2016). The highlight of Ms. Montgomery’s performances with the Janiec Opera Company at Brevard Music Center was her Rose Maurrant in Street Scene, a role she returned to in 2018 with the MSU Opera Theatre where she is completed her master’s degree. Other operatic performances at Michigan State include Giulia in Rossini’s La Scala di Seta, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and Gertrude in Hansel and Gretel. In addition, she has appeared in master classes with renowned artists including Renée Fleming, Richard Bonynge, Lenore Rosenberg, and Terri Hansen.
This spring she also performed and produced a fully staged production of Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Euridice, reinterpreting the classic myth to reflect the journey of love, loss, healing and beauty experienced by survivors of the #MeToo movement.
Ms. Montgomery’s concert appearances include Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Handel’s Messiah with the Michigan State Symphony Orchestra, Fauré’s Requiem, as well as with MSU’s contemporary music series, Musique 21. This May Anna was named a Career Bridges Grant recipient. Other recent competition victories include placing first in the Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition, and she was a national finalist in the American Vocal Arts’ International Collegiate Singing Championship.
