Cadu Verdan is a composer working to transform organically woven timbres and textures into an expressive and meaningful voice. Verdan’s works are inspired from feelings or events that are a part of the human experience, mental health and social justice. Most recently, he was selected to the Fresh Inc Festival 2020 organized by the Fifth House Ensemble and had the world premiere of his string trio, Monomania, a commission made possible by the Steven R. Gerber Trust. He is twice a winner of the Prêmio Funarte de Música Clássica, the most important award in Brazil for classical music, with his works O peso do Eco (2014) and Sobre a angústia (2016), performed respectively at the XXI (2015) and XXII Biennale of Contemporary Music (2017). Verdan was a finalist at the Tinta Fresca festival with his Alucinações Cadavéricas for Symphony Orchestra performed by the Filarmônica de Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is currently collaborating with the American writer Gabriel Gudding on the libretto for an opera based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “Berenice.” Presently, Verdan is participating in the Rhymes With Opera’s Pocket Opera Workshop and is a master’s degree student in Composition at Illinois State University.
