Chase Miller

Clarinet, 2015

Chase Miller earned his Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance from the University of Kentucky under the instruction of Dr. Scott Wright. Earned his Master of Music degree in clarinet performance at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music under the guidance of Professor Jerry Kirkbride and Jackie Glazier. Miller was a member of the Fred Fox Graduate Wind Quintet and the University of Arizona Wind Ensemble. While attending the University of Kentucky, he served as principal and E-flat clarinetist in numerous ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Opera Orchestra, and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Band.

The summers have been spent traveling and attending musical festivals in the United States and Internationally. He has participated in various chamber music festivals such as Fresh, Inc. in Wisconsin and BayView Music Festival in Petosky, Michigan. Most recently Chase attended Music Academy International in Mezzano, Italy and toured Ireland with the Esker Festival Orchestra. Miller has performed in several master classes and studied privately with renowned clarinetist including Walter Seyfarth, Alan Kay, Jeremy Reynolds, Cecila Kang, and Alexander Fiterstein. He has played under conductors Maestro J. David Jackson of the Metropolitan Opera, Maestro Chris Larkin of the Houston Grand Opera, and Keith Lockhart of The Boston Pops Orchestra.

He was the recipient of the University of Kentucky School of Music’s 2013 McCracken Award for exceptional achievement in music performance. In addition to that he was the 2013 concerto competition winner at the University of Kentucky, 2014 participate in the National Woodwind Competition of Arts and Letters, the 2015 concerto competition winner at the Bay View Music Festival, and was third place in The North International Music Competition. Currently Miller is living in in his home state of Lexington, Kentucky. He is a Teaching Artist with Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra’s El Sistema program MusicWorks, the Education Coordinator and Librarian for the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, and running his own private clarinet studio.
