Christopher Kaminski

Composer, 2018

Composer, clarinetist, and improviser Christopher A. Kaminski writes music that focuses on blending different genres together. His musical experiences include listening to his father’s Polka band growing up, playing in wind bands, jazz ensembles, electroacoustic groups, and various chamber groups, and performing free improvisations with friends; he also taught piano lessons to young students out of a studio that mainly taught Southern Indian singing, guitar, violin, tabla, and dance. Kaminski is an avid lover of heavy metal, minimalism, jazz, and Carnatic music, and tries to incorporate these influences into his compositions in order to create a larger audience for each of those genres. He has been commissioned by the Xelana Duo, the Meraki Chamber Players, BACOUSTICS Bassoon Ensemble, the Herbert Hoover Middle School Band, and others. His music has been performed at the fresh inc festival, Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, Connecticut Summerfest, the Iowa Great Lakes Music Festival, Dynamic Music Festival, Michigan State University, Montclair State University, Rutgers University, and le Poisson Rouge in New York City. Currently, Kaminski is working on the soundtrack to a new sci-fi PC game, a heavy metal chamber opera about a cult that worships quesadillas, and an album. Kaminski received a B.M. in Composition and Music Education from Rutgers University, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Composition and a Masters in Music Theory with Dr. Lyn Goeringer at Michigan State University. In his spare time, he enjoys playing chaotic board games and Magic: The Gathering.
