Alexa Letourneau, Fresh Inc 2020 composer, has had a lot on her plate since last summer. She opened her own composition teaching studio and is working one-on-one with five new students. She is planning a digital premiere for some of their work at the end of this academic year.
Recently, the second movement of her new string quartet was performed and recorded by JACK Quartet.
This spring, she is helping the zFestival prepare for their summer festival – you can read more about that here.
On March 6th, you can listen to her new podcast “Classical Schmassical” about new music and art in the modern world. She’ll discuss different aspects of musicianship in quarantine times alongside the broader trends of the 21st century. Various guests will join her, including fellow Fresh Inc alum Tyler Pacheco (his episode is coming in November 2021!). Check it out on Facebook and YouTube.
Additionally, she’s helping the clarinet studio at Mannes to launch a solo clarinet series, culminating in a live-streamed concert at the end of April 2021.
Lastly – keep an eye out for a new group called the Overtone Collective. These composers and bass players will be working together to create music that includes and features the bass as more than an anchor in a larger ensemble. Alexa says that her first experience writing for the instrument was at Fresh Inc, and she’s been inspired to continue exploring the medium.
