Craig Davis Pinson is a composer born and raised in Mexico City. His work is a personal exploration springing from an individual’s interaction with diverse ways of making music available in the present day. Freely drawing influences and tools from several stylistic traditions and performance practices, it strives towards musical creation unburdened by categories. This is often results in hybrid music, which combines elements of intimate musical intuition with abstract manipulation and artificial sound structures.
Davis Pinson’s principal composition teachers have been Curtis K. Hughes, Marti Epstein, and Andy Vores. His music has been performed in the United States, Mexico, and Italy by ensembles and musicians such as members of Fifth House Ensemble, The Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble under Eric Hewitt, Ludovico Ensemble, Atlantic Music Festival Contemporary Ensemble, Juventas New Music Ensemble, The Boston Conservatory Composers’ Orchestra, and Quartetto Maurice. He has participated in readings with violinist Irvine Arditti, The Parker Quartet, Miró Quartet, and QX String Quartet.
His work has been a part of the Fresh Inc Festival, Atlantic Music Festival, highSCORE New Music Festival, and the San Miguel de Allende International Chamber Music Festival. In these festivals he has studied with composers Dan Visconti, Dmitri Tymoczko, Amy Beth Kirsten, Eric Ewazen, Nils Vigeland, Marc Satterwhite, Mario Garuti, James Aikman, Sheridan Seyfried and Solbong Kim; and participated in master classes with Christopher Theofanidis and Hilda Paredes.
In 2013-2014, Davis Pinson was the winner of The Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble Composition Competition, and his music has also been featured in the online publication Boing Boing, at the 2011 Boston Composers Collective Concert at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), and in the indie video game, In Stitches.
