Originally from Muskegon, MI, Darwin McMurray earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and is pursuing a Master of Music Degree at The University of Texas at Austin. With a passion for chamber music and community outreach, Darwin has performed in Chicago’s Symphony Hall, and given many recitals and clinics throughout the state of Michigan. Serving as saxophonist of the GVSU New Music Ensemble (2016-2018), Darwin has performed at Strange Beautiful Music, New Music Gathering Festival, and premiered many contemporary works. As a performer, educator, and administrator, Darwin hopes to continue curating diversity, accessibility, and opportunity in the arts. Darwin has been a participant in the American Saxophone Academy, Brevard Music Festival, Orford Musique Academy, Arosa Saxophone Masterclass, and the fresh inc festival. Previous honors include Finalist in the White Lake Solo Competition and Honorable Mention in the GVSU Concerto Competition. Darwin’s principle teachers include Dr. Dan Graser and Dr. Stephen Page.
