Fresh Inc 2020 – Day 7

Monday, June 15, 2020

After a busy first week of workshops, rehearsals, and performances, we started week two of Fresh Inc 2020 by participating in a workshop about personal promotion led by Melissa and Alex. In addition to learning how to put together an amazing electronic press kit (pro tip: the structure of your bio says a lot about you!), we also learned how to network in a room full of strangers and were reminded that our network is truly our greatest currency.

Noah Durnell performs "Whirlwind" by Thea Musgrave.
Fresh Inc Composer Participant and fearless emcee Miranda Schreiber teaches the audience the art of making stovetop smores.
Parker Nelson performs "New Jerusalem Way" by Arkady Shilkloper (the first looped performance of the night!).
Nick Martinez plays a very tiny piano with looped electronic accompaniment during his performance of "Columpio" by Angélica Negrón.
Alexis Letourneau performs with flute, voice, and electronics for her original composition, "I'm Still Here & Don't Come Find Me."

Monday night featured our faculty and participants in our second Salon Concert of the festival. Even though this concert was technically un-themed, three of our performers used looping as a live performance technique! The variety of instrumentation used during this concert (toy piano, oboe, clarinet, electronics, and more) demonstrated the versatility of the performers and made it hard to turn away from the screen as an audience member. All proceeds collected during Monday night’s performance went directly to the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition.
