Hannah Mayer is an Omaha-based cellist passionate about contemporary classical music as well as music education. This past July she performed at the inaugural Omaha Under the Radar contemporary performance art festival. Ms. Mayer also attended the fresh inc festival in June and is a past participant in the soundSCAPE composition and performance exchange festival. She is a founding member of Ensemble 768, the new music ensemble at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).
In 2007, Ms. Mayer started the More than Music mentoring partnership between the Omaha Symphony and Girls Inc. of Omaha. More than Music pairs beginner string students with high school and collegiate music mentors. The mentors give weekly private lessons and attend group outings to the Omaha Symphony with their mentees. In turn, the mentors receive pedagogy training from a master educator in the Omaha Symphony. Ms. Mayer is a four year participant as a music mentor and is now a mentor for the Girls Inc. Pathfinders Program.
Ms. Mayer is currently a student at UNO where she studied with David Low and Greg Clinton. She has played in masterclasses for Yo Yo Ma, Csaba Erdélyi, the Aviv String Quartet, the Strung Out Trio, and the Turtle Island Quartet. She is the 2011-2012 Presser Scholar of UNO, a Regents Scholar, a recipient of the Peter Kiewit Foundation Legacy Scholarship, and a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
