Kaitlin Hosey

Horn, 2018

Kaitlin is an up and coming hornist in the Southwest Michigan area as a soloist, chamber musician, clinician, and educator. While in Michigan, she has programmed numerous recitals demonstrating her technique, artistry, and love of the horn. In 2018, she participated in concerts as a soloist and chamber musician in Kalamazoo, Napanee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Racine.  In 2016, Mrs. Hosey was named First Place Winner of the International Horn Society Mid-North Horn Workshop: Solo Horn Competition that was held at Ball State University.

Being the horn player and co-founder of The Siren Winds, an all-female woodwind quartet in Southwest Michigan, she has traveled all over the state of Michigan and Indiana programming chamber recitals and educational outreaches. Kaitlin is a regular sub at the Holland Symphony Orchestra and has also had the privilege of performing with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, and the Citadel Music Academy Pit Orchestra. With symphony playing, she enjoys playing horn in musicals like Les Miserables, Into the Woods, Show Boat, Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, and Westside Story with various groups.

To accompany her performance career, Katy has formed and managed Hosey Horn Studio.  HHS is a private studio catering to the needs of middle to high school horn players that have an eagerness to solidify horn basics and expand their world of music outside of their band program.  Hosey’s students are among the top in their schools and the state. Outside of band clinics and Horn Days, Katy’s students have performed in Europe, Africa, and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan and have recently been accepted into Interlochen’s six-week summer with a full tuition scholarship and a free one-week horn intensive camp.

Katy, originally a Mississippi native, moved to Michigan to study with Dr. Lin Foulk and to pursue her Master’s degree in Horn Performance at Western Michigan University.   During her time at Western, she was a member of the Orchestra, Symphonic Winds (top wind ensemble), Graduate Brass Quintet, Graduate Woodwind Quintet, Western Winds Ensemble (Faculty and student ensemble), and the WMU Horn Quartet. Mrs. Hosey earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi where she studied with Dr. Jacquelyn Adams. While at USM, she participated in all major ensembles, most notably the orchestra that performed with the Beach Boys and John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) and a horn octet that performed multiple concerts in London, England for the 46th International Horn Symposium.  During Katy’s free time, she loves gardening, foraging, and spending time with her beautiful dog and wonderful husband on the farm.
