Katherine Woolsey

Oboist Katherine Woolsey has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a solo, orchestral, and chamber musician. She is currently Principal Oboe of the Kansas City-based Kinnor Philharmonic and is a member of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra.  She has also performed with Dayton Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Tallahassee Symphony, Lee’s Summit Symphony, Kansas City Baroque Consortium, and the legendary Bernadette Peters. An advocate of new music, Katherine has recently commissioned works from composers Bill Douglas, Nansi Carroll, Jon Fielder, and Jason Charney, and participated in the soundSCAPE and fresh inc festivals.

A devoted pedagogue, Katherine is currently the oboe instructor at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, and maintains a large private studio in the Topeka and Kansas City areas.  She has given masterclasses and workshops at Ball State University, Augustana College, Bradley University, and the University of Iowa, and has been a guest lecturer at Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Texas-San Antonio.  Katherine also serves on the faculty of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan, where she has taught oboe, woodwind sectionals, and music theory. In addition to teaching and performing, Katherine has been the owner and operator of Fountain City Reed Company since 2012.

Katherine holds degrees from Augustana College, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and The Florida State University, where she served as Graduate Teaching Assistant in both oboe and music education.  Her primary teachers include Cynthia Lambrecht, Ashley Barret, Mark Ostoich, and Eric Ohlsson.
