Katie Kroko, violist, currently resides and performs in the Pittsburgh area. She earned her B.M. in viola performance in 2010, at Chapman University, and her M.M. in viola performance at Duquesne University in 2012. Her principal teachers include Robert Becker and Marylène Gingras-Roy. She has performed with the Duquesne Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, Chapman Chamber Orchestra, and Leo Smit Trio.
Katie recently attended the 2013 Fresh Inc. Festival, and previously attended SoundSCAPE Music Festival and Bowdoin International Music Festival. In 2012, Miss Kroko won the Duquesne University Concerto Competition and performed Miklòs Ròzsa’s Viola Concerto with the Duquesne Symphony. During her graduate studies, Katie served as a graduate assistant to the string department, and she performed with the Duquesne University Graduate String Quartet. She also served as Principal Viola in the Duquesne Symphony.
Current performing groups include the Made of Win Duo – a horn and viola duo focused on collaborating with young composers and bringing new music to new audiences, the Le Force Quartet, the Ripieno Ensemble, and Alia Musica – Pittsburgh’s young new music ensemble. Katie is known for her approaches to string teaching and for her performance of contemporary works.
