Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Lina Yamin is a violinist with a Master’s and Post-Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from DePaul University (Chicago, Il). She has studied with Janet Sung (DePaul University), Kevin Lawrence (UNCSA), and Edgar Aponte (Simon Bolivar Conservatoire).
As a DePaul student, Ms.Yamin performed several solo recitals, besides chamber music showcases and orchestra concerts.
She has also participated in summer festivals such as Chicago Summer Opera, Fresh Inc, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and the summer program of the Latin American Academy of Violin.
Before moving to Chicago, Ms. Yamin was part of “El Sistema” – a social program focused on providing free music education to children and young musicians- in Caracas, Venezuela. There, she took lessons and classes in the Simon Bolivar Conservatoire, while she was also a member of the first violins section of the Youth Orchestra of Caracas (YOC). As a violinist of the YOC, Ms. Yamin toured and played in more than 27 cities in America, Europe, and Asia. She has played under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, Leon Botstein, Dietrich Paredes, Rafael Payare, Christian Vasquez, among others.
Besides her studies in music, Ms. Yamin holds a bachelor’s degree in Sciences of Communication with a specialization in Marketing and Advertising. She earned the degree in 2015 from the Andres Bello Catholic University in Caracas. Ms. Yamin has worked in Venezuela, Spain, and the US. Developing communication strategies and planning content for social media were some of her duties.
Ms. Yamin loves to read, especially books written by Latin-American authors such as Ines Quintero, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Ernesto Sabato, Ana Teresa Torres, Manuel Caballero, among others…
She loves to spend her free time with her husband volunteering in the DePaul parish soup kitchen, watching movies, biking, going to Lake Michigan, or playing violin duets.
