Nicholas Slaughter has been writing original compositions for four years and playing piano for ten years. He is currently attending the University of Redlands School of Music and pursuing a double-major in Music Composition and Piano Performance (Bachelor’s in Music). He has attended summer composition programs at Boston Conservatory/Berklee (2017), Cleveland Institute of Music (2017), and Fresh Inc Music Festival (2020). Nicholas has written in a variety of settings, including art song, short film score, high school wind ensemble, small chamber works, and solo works. The majority of his works have been publicly performed and some have won local, state, and national awards including Composers Today State Contest (Music Teachers Association of California) and the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers Award. His composition teachers include Anthony Suter (Univ of Redlands) and Michael Glenn Williams.
Nicholas has been actively involved in the instrumental study and performance as well. He participated in the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) Certificate of Merit program for 8 years and completed the highest level in piano. He is currently in the piano studio of Louanne Long (Univ of Redlands.) He has played piano and percussion in school jazz bands and wind ensembles, and sung in school choirs.
