Rita Andrade is from Austin, TX and currently working on her master’s in viola performance at the DePaul University School of Music in Chicago. Andrade completed her bachelor’s in music at the University of TX, Butler School of Music. Andrade has played the viola since the age of nice and has always been passionate about building a classical foundation in her playing alongside learning various styles of music.
Having attended Idyllwild Arts Academy for high school in California, Andrade has had the opportunity to play in jazz bands, a Brazilian ensemble and various chamber pop groups. Most of her time spent outside of classical music has been as the original violist of the Austin-based band ‘Mother Falcon.’ Andrade enjoys attending music festivals and has had many great opportunities to attend numerous festivals across the states, Puerto Rico and Cambridge England. Along with finishing school, freelancing, and running her private violin/viola studio, Andrade is starting as a regular member of the Chicago Civic Symphony in the 2013-14 season. In her short time living in Chicago, Andrade has grown very fond of the vibrant artistic scene of the city.
