Seok Hee Jang is a Korean-born clarinetist based in Chicago, and is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at DePaul University under the tutelage of Stephen Williamson. Most recently, Seok Hee was appointed as an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
Seok Hee received his Bachelor of Music degree with a minor in Music Education from McGill University, where he studied with Montreal Symphony clarinetists Alain Desgagné and Michael Dumouchel. Seok Hee has attended various summer programs, including a tour of Portugal and Central Canada with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as principal clarinet, the Fresh Inc Festival, the Scotia Festival of Music, and the Orford Academy Orchestra. He has performed in masterclasses for prominent musicians such as David Shifrin, Eugene Izotov, James Campbell, Daniel Matsukawa, David Krakauer, and Claire Chase. Before moving to Chicago, Seok Hee was stationed at the Republic of Korea Army Headquarters in Gyeryong where he served as the clarinet section leader for the South Korean Army Band.
When he’s away from the clarinet, Seok Hee likes to spend his time running by Lake Michigan, analyzing television tropes, and feeling the time pass by doing nothing with his pet rabbit Alfredo.
