Stefanie Proulx is a New York based flutist and teacher specializing mainly in contemporary music. She is in the second year of her masters at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, studying under Dr. Tara Helen O’Connor. There, she regularly performs with the contemporary ensembles, often collaborating with student composers. She also participates in the chamber music program, as well as playing with the Purchase Symphony Orchestra. In addition to flute, she is versed in both clarinet and saxophone and enjoys doubling in pit orchestras. She provides instruction on all three of these instruments as a teaching artist with Forbes Music Company, traveling throughout Westchester, NY and Southern Fairfield County CT.
Stefanie recently received bachelor’s degrees from the University of Delaware in flute performance, under the tutelage of Eileen Grycky, as well as in Sociology. During her time there she held principal chairs in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestras. With these ensembles she was able to travel on several tours, most notably to Taipei, Taiwan for the 2015 International Concert Band Festival. Additionally in Delaware, she was an avid chamber musician, performing as a member of the Nota Bene Wind Quintet for three years, as well as in a flute and harp duo.
Stefanie has had the privilege of attending a number of festivals including the Skidmore Flute Institute, the Jeffrey Khaner Flute Class, the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, Aria International Summer Academy and Fresh Inc Festival. She has played in master classes for Jeffrey Khaner, Ransom Wilson, Ian Clarke, Alan Weiss, Valerie Coleman, Jonathan Keeble, Keith Underwood, Alexa Still, and Amy Porter.
